An Effect of Integrated Art Therapy on Self-Understanding and Stress of Middle-Aged Women

Abstract

|
This study is to investigate an effect of integrated art therapy through music, art, and the dance movement on middle-aged women' self-understanding and stress. The subjects of this study are 20 middle-aged women who are recruited by community center and social welfare center¡¯s online promotion whose age is ranging from 40 to 59 years old were randomly assigned. 10 middle-aged women were assigned to an experimental group and 10 middle-aged women were assigned to a control group and the program was performed to the experimental group twice a week totally 12 times from April to May, 2022. The measurement tools are the self-understanding scale, the stress scale and a significance was conducted by the pre- and post test of the experimental group and the control group and an analysis of covariance(ANCOVA). The summary of the research's results is as follows: First, self-integrity, projective family, emotional cutoff among sub-scales of the self-understanding have been significantly decreased and cognitive emotion differentiation, family-attrition have been significantly incresed. Second, every area of active copying, passive reception/ resignation, self criticism/ brooding, downward comparison among sub-scales of the stress have significant result.
Through these study result the integrated art therapy affects the middle-aged women¡¯ understanding self and stress. Finally implication and limitation of the study is discussed.
